Art City West Broadway Candy Chase

YOU are invited to the West Broadway CANDY CH4SE! Each year, Art City produces a free Halloween themed community event for all ages! Candy Chase will take us through the streets of West Broadway hunting for hidden candy, running away from monsters we made, experiencing epic jump scares, trick or treating at local businesses, and chasing the elusive Candy Monster! This year, we are partnering with the BNC, where we will meet to get ready, and return for a post-Candy Chase dance party!
Schedule:
4 pm Meet at BNC, 185 Young Street to get ready
6 pm Candy Chase begins!
7 pm Return to BNC for dance party!
7:30 pm Time to go home
You know it will be SPOOKTACULAR!!!
Art City Bird Parade and Festival

YOU ARE INVITED to our super summer party, the Art City Bird Parade and Festival! This event combines our annual Art City Parade, as devised by young program participants, Talent Show, starring Art City participants, ARTsquad Art Sale (in support of fun ARTsquad activities) and a mini golf course created with visiting guest artist duo @derdieworld ! Plus free food and refreshments!

Schedule: 11 am: gather to get ready, ARTsquad Art Sale starts!
12 noon: Parade starts!
1 pm: Parade returns to the park, Talent Show starts!

Animal Crackers:
Drawings by the Art City Drawing Club

Animal Crackers is a celebration of our Art City Drawing Club! Led by instructor Margaret Glavina, Art City Drawing Club (AC/DC) is a free, drop-in drawing program offered weekly at Art City, 616 Broadway.
Glavina leads AC/DC participants of all ages and abilities on a safari of skill building, spending months focusing on a specific theme or subject matter.
Some work in Art City Animal Crackers was created as recently as last week. Other pieces are from the AC/DC archives, created over the span of years by dozens of different artists.
Ceramic work was also created for the exhibit by participants in Art City’s ceramics program, also under Glavina’s instruction.
It is our hope that viewing this work provides visitors with a moment of respite from whatever event might have brought them to Saint Boniface Hospital.
Please enjoy these artworks, appreciate the earnestness with which they were created, and let your mind travel to the natural world these animals inhabit.
Join us for a closing reception on Wednesday, August 28, 7 pm to 9 pm.

whether to defund Art City and all of the other City of Winnipeg community grant recipients.
Since 2003, the City of Winnipeg has been
Art City's primary operational funding partner, stabilizing and supporting all aspects of our programming.
Art City has never faced such a threat.
You are invited to join Art City Directors Eddie and Josh (and friends)
ON THURSDAY JUNE 27 BETWEEN 8:30 AM AND 9:30 AM AT CITY HALL (510 Main Street) for a rally directly in advance of this fateful council meeting.
With music playing and awesome visuals, it should be a fun, positive demonstration for thevery soul of our city.

Every Monday, the film photography program provides the supplies and equipment for participants to shoot, develop, and print their own photographs in one of the last community darkrooms in Winnipeg. Natalie Baird has led the program since 2016, assisted by volunteers and guest artists.
Since 1998, Art City’s film photography program has created a chronicle of the constantly shifting West Broadway neighbourhood. During photo walks and outdoor portraits, children as young as 6 years have used the medium of film to capture light and make their memories tangible by retreating to the subterranean darkroom to make black and white prints.
Images created in the film photography program don’t depict subjects so much as they depict participants; the program’s highly collaborative nature places everyone involved on each side of the lens. A child in one image, for example, is sure to have controlled the camera that made other images in the exhibition. Photographs of West Broadway–made mostly in and around the immediate vicinity of Art City's building at Broadway and Young Street–show us the paths that participants have shaped in their neighbourhood, and reveal the location and artifacts they deem significant as they dwind through it.
With this collection, Art City marks 25 years of making film photography possible through the creation of a community that brings participants, volunteers, and staff members together to keep the medium thriving outside at Young and Broadway.
